CULTURAL EXCELLENCE AWARD<\/strong>
His Eminense,Archbishop Ioannis Tsaftaridis of Zambia and Mozambique<\/strong>is awarded for his outstanding social work and promotion of the Greek language and culture in these countries. His Eminence is leading the effort to return the historic and magnificent building Athinaion in Maputo to the Greek community of Mozambique, and he is tirelessly working to construct a new cultural complex in the same city. In Zambia, he is spearheading the construction of a Missionary Village in the so-called Vlachaki community, a group of about 3,000 people descended from the Cretan Dimitris Vlachakis, who arrived in the country in the late 19th century. Among other things, the village includes an important educational complex consisting of a school, vocational school, sports center, and cultural multipurpose hall.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
